Electrical accessories manufacturer, Focus SB’s bespoke design and manufacturing service has produced a 50-gang plate for a private dwelling in Scotland, as Roger Kemp explains:
The plate concerned includes a custom made back box. This was a challenge, even though the company had previously manufactured a 24-gang box. From initial design to delivery took the company six weeks, including amendments to the silk screening and engraving, and the Scottish client is extremely pleased with the result.
Customised design service
Interior design changes nearly as fast as clothing fashions, almost with the seasons. From super modern, minimalist apartments in cities, to period houses in the country, there are a wide variety of possible themes that can be created.
The ability to design and make special wiring accessories means that we were able to incorporate the modules and devices that are used to fully integrate multi-room sound and entertainment systems, lighting and heating controls or other types of control devices. As one of the few UK companies to make its own metal and clear acrylic thermoplastic plates, it is possible to manufacture any quantity without the need for long lead times.
Where required, these high specification plates can be engraved or silk-screen printed with lettering to identify the function of each individual switch or control on a multi-gang plate. For example, within a kitchen area, the switches can be marked as microwave, washing machine or fridge.
Switch on your imagination
Because of this bespoke design and manufacturing service, customers no longer have to accept standard off-the-shelf electrical accessories. They merely have to specify exactly the accessories they want and need, from initial design and manufacture of prototypes to short run or mass production. The in-house design and engineering division has many experts in tool design and manufacture, and can readily to turn customers’ ideas into reality, especially as the team enjoys a challenge.
The company is able to produce special plates that can incorporate the latest so-called ‘smart home’ technologies to any specification. Each plate can be manufactured to suit the demands of the insert, thereby creating decorative solutions that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
Such products – coming through the in-house design and engineering division – have been specified for a wide range of applications, from flats in Dubai with gold plating throughout to renovating derelict stately homes with wooden lighting plates. There is almost no end to the possible combinations and finishes that can be produced.
The designers have noticed a recent rise in demand for custom-built AV plates to fit the modules needed for DVD, TV and various music players, so have detailed the potential offerings with a new brochure illustrating the near endless combination of AV plates and modules they can produce.
